DT Food Project, by Mr Phillips

Date: 22nd Dec 2015 @ 1:38pm

This week the children took part in a Christmas themed DT food project. First they looked at different foods sold in Christmas markets around the world and tasted different products, including Italian Pandoro and German Stollen. Then they researched their own recipes for Christmas foods and designed their own product. Later in the week, they worked in small groups to make their product and decorate it before selling them to each other at a Northway Christmas Market.

Have a look at some of the pictures below of the finished products on display at the Christmas Market. :)

Anderson Shelter Project, by Mr Phillips

Date: 22nd Dec 2015 @ 1:33pm

The children in Upper Juniors were set a 3 week project to research and build an Anderson shelter. They could choose their own materials but their final design had to be waterproof and able to hold a 1kg weight. Their finished projects were so creative and lots of time and effort had been put into each and every one.
See some of the masterpieces below!

Next week, in English lessons, we will be writing instructions for how to make an Anderson shelter linked to the homework.

Upper Junior Football, by Mr Phillips

Date: 22nd Dec 2015 @ 1:28pm

On Tuesday some children from Year 5 and 6 took part in a football tournament at Active Soccer in Maghull. Year 5 tried really hard but unfortunately they didn’t make it through to the knockouts. Year 6 made it through and won in the semi-finals but unfortunately they conceded an own goal and lost in the final.

Lots of fun was had by all who took part! :)

Have a look at some of the photographs from the event below.

English in Upper Juniors, by Mr Phillips

Date: 22nd Dec 2015 @ 1:27pm

In English today, the children have been in role as journalists and they have interviewed characters from our class novel ‘The Silver Sword’. The information they have gathered will help them to include quotes in their newspaper report that they will be writing about the escape of the chimpanzee from the Tiergarten zoo in Berlin (chapter 14 events).

Upper Juniors Liverpool trip, by Mr Phillips

Date: 22nd Dec 2015 @ 1:03pm

On Friday the Upper Juniors enjoyed a trip to Liverpool where we explored some on the history and culture that makes it such a unique city. We found evidence of links to slavery, looked at some historical features of Castle St, took a trip on the ferry and even experienced singing in the Cavern Club!

RNLI Workshop, by Mr Phillips

Date: 22nd Dec 2015 @ 1:01pm

On Tuesday, two members of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution came into school to speak to our upper junior children. They learnt all about the colours of the flags at the beach and how to stay safe in the water and on the beach. Have a look at some of the demonstrations which involved the children dressing up and role-playing different scenarios.
