INCLUSIVE PRACTICES
Here at Northway Community Primary school, the ‘community’ is a huge priority for us.
We develop a caring community culture that is inclusive for all. Parent/carer and pupil feedback often describes our school community as a strong family feel.
How do we build our caring community culture?
· We are proud to be a Restorative and Relational Practice School.
· We are proud to be part of the Social Signature movement in our community.
· We are proud to have an extensive Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural calendar
· We are proud to teach from the award winning interactive ‘1Decision’ PSHE curriculum.
· We are proud to be a Voice 21 Oracy School
Restorative and Relational Practice
We are incredibly proud of the relational and restorative practices that shape everyday life in our school, especially our whole‑school community circles. These circles take place throughout the week and help us build a strong, supportive and connected school community.
Every Monday, we start the week with a checking‑in circle, giving everyone a chance to share how they are feeling and begin the week positively. On Tuesdays, our whole‑school community circle brings us all together to listen, learn from one another and strengthen our sense of belonging. To finish the week, we join a check‑out circle every Friday after our celebration assembly, taking a moment to reflect and recognise the achievements of the week.
These special times help children grow in confidence, develop their voices and deepen our community spirit. They are a valued and joyful part of our school week.
Social Signature
Social Signature is a charity that believe the power is within us all to accomplish infinitely more than we might think is possible and by believing in yourself and your capacity to do good, good things happen. Through a portfolio of innovative programmes, skills and resources, we provide the time, space, opportunity and support that encourage young people to seek an understanding of their life’s purpose at an early age so they can go on to lead their best life.
Our School Council plays a vital role in helping all of our pupils discover their ability to make a real difference in the world. Whether they are taking action to protect the environment, raising awareness about important current issues, or heading out into the community to spread kindness, our pupils lead and support a wide range of meaningful initiatives.
Through these opportunities, every child is encouraged to develop their own social signature — the unique way they choose to contribute, show empathy, and make a positive impact. We are proud to nurture their confidence, compassion and potential as they learn just how powerful their actions can be.
Voice 21 Oracy
As a Voice 21 Oracy School, we place spoken language at the heart of learning, ensuring every child develops the confidence, clarity and communication skills they need to thrive. By giving pupils regular, structured opportunities to speak, listen and collaborate, we empower them to express their ideas, challenge thinking and take an active role in their learning. This strong focus on oracy strengthens pupil voice across the school, helping children to articulate their views, lead discussions and contribute meaningfully to school life. Ultimately, our commitment to oracy nurtures articulate, thoughtful and empowered learners who feel heard, valued and ready to make a positive difference in their world.
1Decision PSHE curriculum
Our 1Decision PSHE curriculum provides an engaging and empowering approach to personal, social, health and economic education, helping every child develop the knowledge, skills and values they need to make confident, positive choices. Through interactive lessons, real‑life scenarios and high‑quality video resources, pupils are encouraged to explore their feelings, recognise risks, build healthy relationships and understand their responsibilities within the wider community. The curriculum supports children in becoming thoughtful, resilient and respectful individuals, while also giving them the vocabulary and confidence to express themselves clearly and safely. By using 1Decision, we ensure our pupils grow not only academically, but also emotionally and socially—preparing them for life both in and beyond school.
